Akis Tasios
PhD Candidate
Akis Tasios has obtained his diploma in mining engineering and metallurgy from National Technical University of Athens.
His doctoral dissertation involves the thermodynamic modelling of petroleum mixtures. More specifically, he is working on the development of a new Cubic Equation of State (CEoS) that will model the phase equilibrium of petroleum mixtures and a series of thermophysical properties, quite important for process design in the oil and gas industry. The new model will include a new modified attractive term and a new volume correction based on data of pure compounds. Extension of this model to mixtures will take place through the Universal Mixing Rules (UMR) which combine the CEoS with the UNIFAC activity coefficient model. In order to properly describe the hydrogen bonding interactions caused by the presence of water or glycols into natural gas applications, the association term from Wertheim’s theory will be taken into account. Finally, the applicability and the practical performance of this model will be assessed by its implementation in commercial process simulators.
